Beyonce playing as Wonder Woman??? Say it ain’t so!
Yep, you heard right. According to the L.A. Times, the diva has become very interested in being the next super hero.
Beyonce stated to the newspaper that ”I want to do a superhero movie and what would be better than Wonder Woman? It would be great. And it would be a very bold choice. A black Wonder Woman would be a powerful thing. It’s time for that, right?”
She has met with some of the representatives of DC Comics and Warner Bros to show them how interested she is in doing the role.
What do you guys think? Will she make a great hero? Is this the biggest miscast since George Clooney playing the part of Batman?
I dont know about you…but I’m not looking forward to another Catwoman and Elektra movie.

Wonder Woman needs an actress who is strikingly beautiful, tough, and can play a convincing role. That’s asking for a lot. And it helps that everyone can take her seriously too. Definitely some tough shoes to fill.
Beyonce looks good, but is not striking, she plays a tough persona in most of her characters, but I certainly don’t take her too seriously as an actress.
Maybe I’m being too judgmental, but come to think of it, I can’t think of any actress that could fill Wonder Woman’s shoes.
Anyone?

For those comic book aficionados, I would agree that Wonder Woman (key word “Wonder”) would have to be (as MoDoggz so appropriately puts it) “…strikingly beautiful, tough, and can play a convincing role”. But, for the masses or, rather, those that only “know” that WW is a comic book hero (heroine), they just wouldn’t care less since they don’t know what WW is all about.
Before watching a hero movie, I usually research the character (yes, as my name suggests, I’m a geek) so that I can either be disappointed by the actor’s performance or impressed by it. Most people just care to see a Hollywood star *play* a character, but not necessarily *become* the character. In other words, us “comic character connoisseurs” crave consistency concerning creative constructs (how’s that for alliteration).
Let’s keep in mind that movie remakes and character resurgence are meant for those who are unfamiliar with the source. Take for example the movie “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”. This was a remake (or, rather, a “movie make”) of the BBC TV series. It was not true to the series (which was VERY true to the book). I was giddy with anticipation to see this movie. Truly disappointing. On the other hand, LOTR (the acronym are for those in “the know”, but for those of you who don’t know, it stands for “Lord of the Rings”; I just didn’t want to type “Lord of the Rings” because it’s too long of a title to type), though not ENTIRELY true to the book, it hit the mark about 95% (IMHO). Also, for those that saw the Rankin & Bass animated movie “The Hobbit”, their adaptation of LOTR and the Ralph Bakshi adaptation of LOTR, the Peter Jackson adaptation looked VERY similar (but with REAL people, wizards and hobbits ). Even some of the scenes looked the same, like the scene when Frodo decides to keep the ring in Mount Doom. It’s right off the Rankin & Bass adaptation. The scene when Boromir is killed is right off the Bakshi adaptation, etc. (Rankin & Bass just did Return of the King while Bakshi concentrated on the Fellowship of the Ring; but I digress).
All in all, the mediocre masses will go FLOCKING to see this WW adaptation with Beyond-say, while those of us non-mediocre movie goers will probably watch only because of historical reasons and to embrace the entire WW genre: comics, TV, movie and our personal imaginations.

Ok. After the last rant, I neglected to answer the questions as to who could become Wonder Woman…….hmmm, let’s see…..
1) Tall.
2) Strong character/demeanor.
3) HOT beyond belief!
4) Intelligent.
5) HOT beyond belief!
Salma Hayek? Ok, she’s not REALLY tall, but 4 out of 5 ain’t bad. If Salma were to become Wonder Woman, I’d like the movie to be directed by Quentin Tarantino. It’ll be interesting to see a “Tarantino-esque” scene:
WW: “Tel mee de trrrrrooss!”
Bad Guy (BG): “Yous will nevah make me toak!”
WW: “Vehree well, den, aye weel tai ju up wiss mai lasso ohv trrrrrooss and mayk ju sohk mai tohss onteel ju tel me!”
BG: “NO! Not da lasso!”
Then I wake up.

LOL! I have a strange feeling that Wonder Woman will be a washout like all The Punisher movies.
