The Sinestro Corps is a bad guy line of fictional characters with some similarities to the Green Lantern Corps in the DC Universe. The Sinestro Corps leader is the Supervillain Sinestro.
The Sinestro Corps work almost the same as the Green Lantern Corps. They have rings which basically search the entire universe for beings who might make a good addition to the Corps. For example, in the Sinestro Corps special Batman Comic one of the Sinestro Corps rings came back to him offering him the ability of infuse great fear. The powers for are fueled according to the character traits which the Sinestro Corps feel appropriate, much as the Green Lantern Corps usually used will power. However, the ability to create fear is used differently by the Sinestro Corps. Both of these groups charge their rings through a mantra. It must be said thought, that the mantra of the Sinestro Corps is a bit more disturbing.
The Parallax entity got its start before the Sinestro Corps. It is basically a space parasite which is the personification of fear that has been imprisoned in the Central Power Battery. With the passage of time, the Parallax entity became known as the Yellow impurity which was the cause for the weakness of the Green Lantern. At this time, the Sinestro Corps was the greatest in the Green Lantern universe and was sent to Earth by Supernova. The execution of the plan to expunge Gay Gardner from history, the character Booster Gold of Sinestro C Corps had been assigned this task to prevent it from happening, and for this he convinced other Sinestros to leave Earth. He claimed to be an admirer of the future and also that his legion of yellow Super-Heroes fighting ring was in honor of Sinestro. When he was asked which corps is he from, Booster labeled them ‘Sinestro Corps’. [ad]
After Sinestro had gone bad, the Guardians of the Universe expelled him to Q-ward of the antimatter universe. On his return from Q-ward he manipulated a power ring that used yellow energy. After a number of encounters with Green Lantern, Hal Jordan of Earth, he was put behind bars in the Central Power battery. It is here where he used his power ring that used fear which removes willpower, as his power source to wake up Parallax from hibernation. Being successful in his task, from there on the Sinestro Corps and the Parallax were able to work together and create pressure that led to the fall of Hal Jordan and also prompted the fall of the Green Lantern Corps. From this they left behind just one and last Green Lantern, Kyle Rayner.
With the return of Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern Crops had been restarted and the Sinestro Corps also started to actively recruit members. Sinestro offered them yellow power rings along with a role in the Corps to those that could infuse great fear. These new members of the Sinestro Corps were then instantly taken to the Q-ward to be subject to physical and psychological reconditioning. The members of the Sinestro Corps also worked in different sectors just as the Green Lantern Corps did. Even though the Sinestro Corps used fear, and opposed the Guardians and the Green Lantern Corps, the Sinestro Corps started their own goal which was to bring order to the universe like it was before, as they claimed that the guardians had failed to do so.
Arkillo, a muscular and unfriendly to say the least, alien, is influencing all the Weaponeers of Q-ward, forcing them to incessantly build new yellow rings that will be programmed to break the barriers between the matter universes and the anti-matter universe so that he finds and recruits new yellow ring wielders. The alien also serves in one of the Sinestro Corps as a drill sergeant, very much similar to the role of Kilowog in Green Lantern Corps.
All the members of Sinestro Corps that were recruited apart from Arkillo and the namesake which includes Karu-Sil, who was raised by animals, Bedovian who is the sniper for the Corps, and Despotellis who is a sentient virus that is capable of attaching to Lanterns from inside, are capable of taking out their targets from three different sectors. There are a total of sixteen members in the Sinestro Corps group of the Qward, Antimatter Universe. The Sinestro Corps also attempted to recruit the renowned Batman in an effort to use his dreadful ability to infuse fear in others. However Batman’s willpower combined with his earlier brief exposure to the power ring, allowed him to refuse the yellow ring before it could take him to be completely trained and molded as one of the solders of Sinestro Corps. However the yellow power ring then required a replacement for which they selected Amon Sur who was actually the unhappy son of Abin Sur who was actually attempting to steal the ring of Hal Jordan on Earth.
