While the action figures aren’t out yet,we’ll give you a bit of insight on what the characters are about.
The Watchmen is a well known fiction comic book written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Dave Gibbons. There are in all twelve issues of the comic book. The comic is the only graphic novel which has won the Hugo Award. It was also featured in the Time Magazine’s list of 100 best English language novels in 2005.
The story of Watchmen is set in 1985, and the characters are all fictitious. The story is about how the country of United States is nearing close to a nuclear war with the Soviet Union. The heroic characters in the comic are involved in some or the other either in saving United States or destroying it.
Rorschach
In the comic, this character is an anti-hero. His face is supposed to be an inkblot mask. His actions and thoughts clearly indicate that according to him good and evil are clearly defined and that the evil must be severely punished. To achieve these objectives, he has isolated himself from the society. His political views are anti-communist, anti-liberal, reactionary and strong nationalist.
The comic book has two characters by the name Nite-Owl. These characters are modified versions of the Blue Beetle characters. One of these resembles Batman to some extent.
Dr. Manhattan
This fictitious was born as Jonathan Osterman in 1929. During a nuclear experiment, he got completely disintegrated but does not die. Instead he acquires superhuman powers. These powers included telekinesis; he has the ability to teleport himself or others to other planets or other galaxies. As his super powers bring him more glory, he starts becoming gradually disinterested in human affairs and finds himself unable to connect to anybody, including his love interest Laurie.
Silk Spectre
This name has been to a mother daughter pair who is super heroines. They are the central characters in Watchmen. One of these characters is Sally Jupiter, a former waitress. This character, being very attractive, got a lot of male attention. The other character, Laurie Juspeczyk, is Sally’s daughter. Laurie is a modern woman with a liberal thinking. In spite of never being inclined to become her mother’s successor, she gets pushed and goes along with her mother’s wishes. Sally acts like an agent for her daughter. During her crime busting, Laurie becomes romantically involved with Dr. Manhattan. She eventually quits being a superhero. Both these characters have great fighting powers.
This character, born to rich immigrant parents, inherits their fortune upon their death at age 17. He chooses to give it all away to charity and starts on a quest. This character is gifted with extra ordinary intelligence. His ambitions too, are high. He is a master strategist and makes sure that anyone opposing him is cleverly gotten rid of.
This character is a vigilante-turned-paramilitary agent. He has been portrayed as a ruthless character that has no value for human life. Born in 1924 as Edward Morgan Blake, he becomes an adventurer in 1939 and dresses in a clown-like costume and wears a domino mask. This character eventually manages to wipe out most organized crime from the city of New York.
