Action Figure Review: Star Wars the Clone Wars
Hasbro as done a really good job with its production of high quality Clone Wars action figures as they are a perfect replica of the actual figures.
The action figures from the Star Wars-The Clone Wars are produced by Hasbro and Kenner toys. The action figures have plenty of detail and are enjoyable as toys for the younger crowd. The figures are made better at 3 ¾ providing more quality than other companies can do at twice the size.
Yoda and his kybuck seems an inseparable pair looking very good together as they prepare for battle. Yoda needs his kybuck as he is so tiny that makes him nearly immobile if he is on his own.
The Yoda action figure simply looks very good. The figure comes with a cloth robe that can be removed. Underneath he is wearing an outfit that looks that he is ready for a war, well maybe not, it is just a brown shirt and a white tan pants. He also has a white sash which holds his lightsaber on his back. The cloth robe allows the lightsaber to poke through a slit in the material. There are also two holes that make room for Yoda’s oversized ears. Though the cloth looks a bit big on him, it is only natural as it is a chronic error with real clothes on toys. The Yoda figure is only 17/8 tall with balljointed ankles, moveable wrists, a moveable waist, a ball and socket neck and a balljointed shoulder. He has an angry look on his face and has hands that are nicely shaped as well. The kybuck on the other hand has a cute face. This was made up for The Clones Wars. It has hip pegs and looks like it is cross between a kangaroo, a horse, and a dinosaur.
Clad in pure white this action figure of Padme Amidala is different from the get ups she wore in previous Star Wars films. Here the figure is very plain. The figure’s face is a real work of art with every detail close to perfection. Everything except the face is covered with her white costume. There is no hair to be seen as it is covered by the one piece outfit. The head is a bit bigger which may be an indication that there is a layer of hair rolled up inside. The wardrobe is a tight white bodysuit with a zipper on the back. The seam of the arms, inner legs, neckline, shoulder and hips, are sewn very professionally. The costume is faithfully modelled on the animated look of the garment. The Amidala figure comes with quite a few accessories as weel. There is a slim cylinder which looks like a grenade, a pistol, and a pair of binoculars.
There are two Mace Windu figures that are available from the Clone Wars series. One is the regular looking realistic version like that of the star war films, and the other is the animated version that looks similar to the character as he appears in the cartoon version.
The regular version is detailed quite well. The Jedi has his own trademark robes as well. He is clad in a tri colour outfit of brown, white and tan. The face has a cheerful look and the head moves as well as the shoulder, wrists, hips, elbows and hips. This flexibility gives him sufficient mobility to use his lightsaber when it is needed.
The version of the action figure from the animated film does not have as much detail as the non animated version figures. The face has a sleek line and his robes are muted compared to the real version. He even got new sets of shoulder pads. The animated version does not have any removable features like that of the regular one. The face does not resemble any thing to the real guy himself. The figure can move at the neck, right wrist and shoulder but that is not really enough to qualify as an action figure, especially to collectors.
Like that of Mace Windu, the General Grievous figures come in two types- one in the traditional action figure style and the other in the animated style. The figures look quite menacing. The android body is all skeletal which makes him look like a live spectre of death. His body is painted bony white and has a brown highlight on the top. The face is well.. not entirely a face. It has a pair of eyes that peeks out from his rather equine mask. There is some scalded flesh around the eyes which is the only flesh seen on his body. The figure can move at the shoulder, torso, elbow, knees and hips giving you plenty of options to play with.
The animated version is not as detailed as the regular version figure. The animated version really lacks the detail that make this character great.
The Clone trooper comes with removable armour. This is the fun part of the toy. You can take it off and put it back on again. The trooper can take off the chest armour, the piece on the biceps, and thighs which exposes a black bodysuit underneath. The figure moves at the shoulder, neck, hips, knee, waist and left wrist.
There are also two types of ARC Troopers as that of the regular one and the animated one. The regular one is more detailed than that of the animated one. The regular version has bluish-grey stripe running on the arm, and matches with the accents in the helmet. On the Trooper’s left forearms there is some sort of control pad. He also got a grey pauldron like that of the Sandtrooper style on his left shoulder.
As with the other characters in this series, the animated versions are not very detailed. Even though they are different it is hard to tell. The only obvious difference is that the extra parts over the armour are quite solid and are a moulded part of the figure which is not removable.
